The Center of Excellence for Leadership & Innovation was initiated by Maureen Ruby and Michael Alfano of the Farrington College of Education & Human Development (FCEHD).

Inaugural Director

The inaugural director is Maureen Ruby, DMD, Ph.D., endowed chair of social, emotional and academic leadership. Ruby is an associate professor in the FCEHD. She has a background in the sciences (BS, biology; MS, materials science engineering; DMD, dental medicine), education (MS, education; Ph.D., special education: focus literacy) and social and emotional learning (fellowship at Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence). Ruby is considered a “boundary spanner” and values the synergism, empowerment and possibilities afforded by interdisciplinary work.
