Pre-Law Advisement

In This Section
The pre-law advisement program at Sacred Heart University is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and ability to be admitted into a competitive law school while also preparing the student for a successful law school and professional career.
Each pre-law student will be matched with a pre-law faculty/staff advisory member who will guide the student through the law school application process. Pre-law students can major in any discipline. The Pre-Law Advisory Committee is made up of experts in varying fields of study at SHU and can help guide students into the best course of study based on their individual interests.
Pre-law students will automatically become members of the Pre-Law Society. The Pre-Law Society hosts many law-related events throughout the year, including guest speakers, field trips and volunteer opportunities.
Message from the Co-Directors
Designed to introduce students to theoretical areas of the law, the SHU pre-law program transforms these topics into a practical approach. Our mission is to make law accessible to students of all disciplines, exposing them to potential career paths in the legal profession.
While the program assists students in the details of a law school application, it also assigns a pre-law adviser to each student to help navigate the entire process. The pairing is based on the student’s areas of interest and their undergraduate discipline of study.
Career opportunities abound within the legal profession and are open to graduates for students who have studied politics, business, nursing, social work, intellectual property, engineering or communications—just to name a few!
The possibilities are endless, and the SHU pre-law program helps students discover where they may fit within the legal field.
Contact us directly and we can meet with you to discuss your individual plans.

Law School Application Process
The law school application process can appear daunting and overwhelming. The pre-law program at SHU will assist in the entire application process. Each student will be matched with a faculty mentor who will guide the student through the process. Some highlights of the process include assistance in providing an appropriate timeline of events, scheduling an LSAT prep course, guidance on achieving the best possible letter of recommendation and assistance with the personal statement required by all law schools.
3+3 Program
If chosen for this prestigious 3+3 select academic program, a student can earn a bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor by completing all required credits for their degree program at Sacred Heart University within three years (90 credits). The balance of their undergraduate credits (30 credits) will be completed during their first year of law school at Seton Hall University or Villanova University. Students can apply for this program up to completion of their freshman year at SHU.
The Pre-Law Society
The Pre-Law Society at Sacred Heart University is an organization created to benefit potential law school students. The Pre-Law Society hosts many law-related events throughout the year including guest speakers, field trips, roundtable discussions, social events, volunteer opportunities and priority notice of internship opportunities.
