The Inclusive Excellence Advisory Council (IEAC) is a representative group that is convened to advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB).

The IEAC seeks to promote a psychologically safe environment of anti-racism/anti-oppression at Sacred Heart University. The membership composition and operating procedures are currently under review and development and will be published once completed.

Purpose & Functions

The purpose of the IEAC is multifocal and includes but may not be limited to the following functions:

  • Be department representatives to build commitment and buy-in for DEIB
  • Be the voice of the student; bring forward questions and concerns for the advisory council chair to address
  • Advocate for equality and equity for all members of the SHU community through the development of ideas and initiatives, whereby all SHU constituents have a representative perspective in sustaining a culture of inclusive excellence
  • Promote a psychologically safe environment that supports a culture of antiracism, anti-oppression and anti-discrimination and admonishes retaliatory practices
  • Build team and culture within the council; bring forward conflicts and points of disagreement to build path forward
  • Assist in formulating a plan for DEIB that is ambitious, yet attainable
  • Review proposals and provide recommendations to the CDIO on actions forward
