Religion has played a central role in shaping human actions and perceptions, as well as social institutions and values. In the field of religious studies & theology, we explore the origins and nature of religion, as well as the various religions, their histories, traditions and theologies. The theology & religious studies program at Sacred Heart University explores the richness of the world’s religious traditions. Students will learn about the role of religion in the development of the world’s cultures and they will learn how to appreciate and analyze the complex role of religion in our contemporary world. Students can enter all fields of work since understanding religious and cultural diversity is increasingly valuable. Some careers in which the major is particularly tailored to include medical ethics, public policy, law, advocacy, publishing, journalism, philanthropic and nonprofit work, religious education, chaplaincy, counseling, social work, parish & church ministry, higher education and campus ministry.
