Are You Autism Aware? | AYAA

Members of AYAA work hard to raise awareness for autism on campus, as well as in the Bridgeport and Fairfield communities. Additionally, the club promotes anti-bullying and open-mindedness as two of the major themes of their mission.

Best Buddies

Best Buddies works to enhance the lives of those with intellectual disabilities. Through the club's efforts, they offer events on campus for our SHU students, create relationships, work to offer social engagements, play games, and provide an environment where all who are involved can interact with and learn from each other. They hosted the first annual Midnight Madness Treasure Hunt for Best Buddies International on the SHU campus in 2009. This event provided an entire day and night of fun for our SHU students and Best Buddies members.

buildOn

buildOn is a student-run organization that work to advance buildOn’s mission to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service, raising awareness and educational events.

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club works to raise awareness and improve various environmental issues, including pollution, conservation and recycling efforts. The Environmental Club educates, advocates for change, collaborates with like-minded organizations, volunteers and fundraises all to promote their environmental efforts.

Habitat for Humanity

The purpose of the Sacred Heart University Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is to assist with the local Bridgeport affiliate in constructing homes, raising funds, and increasing awareness of housing issues in the community. This group provides SHU students the opportunity to rebuild the lives of those in the community and host events on the SHU campus, such as Sleep Outs, building sheds, gingerbread house creations during the holidays, etc.

Ivory Ella

Ivory Ella is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping save elephants. Our mission is to look for different ways to give back and inspire others all while saving the elephants who are in great need of our help.

Pinky Swear PACK

Pinky Swear PACK works to raise awareness for pediatric cancer through various events, as well as host bone marrow swab drives for the SHU Community to assist in ending the fight in the battles children may be facing.

PioneerVote

PioneerVote is a student-led campaign to help raise awareness of political issues occurring at the local, state and federal level. The goal of PioneerVote is to get as many students as possible to register to vote and ultimately casting their ballot. We want to make the process quick and easy, especially for students registering in Connecticut.

Relay for Life

The affiliate chapter of Relay for Life aims to work closely with the American Cancer Society in raising money for cancer treatments and research. This chapter aims to hold many fundraisers for the American Cancer Society, including an annual Relay for Life Event here at Sacred Heart University. In addition, we hope to engage the community of cancer survivors and health care workers to honor them for their bravery, determination and strength. 

Simply Smiles

The Simply Smiles Club works in conjunction with The Simply Smiles Organization to carry out their mission to provide bright futures to for children, families, and communities in both of their locations in Oaxaca, Mexico and on the Cheyenne River Reservation. Our goal as a club is to continue to make an impact through fundraisers, pen pals, donations and continuing to spread the word about this great non-profit.

Stand Up

Stand Up is a bystander intervention that aims to prevent violence such as dating violence, stalking and sexual abuse. Through bystander empowerment, our club can work to educate Sacred Heart’s community about these ongoing issues and spread the word on how we can make a better and safer community, through our actions.

Women's Political Engagement Commission | WPEC

The Women’s Political Engagement Commission (WPEC) is a bipartisan organization motivated to educate and engage women in our community. In an era of increasing polarization, we have noticed that other political and women-led clubs on campus lean one way politically, excluding an opposing view. We are a coalition of ambitious women who seek the amplification of our sister’s voices in politics and law regardless of their party affiliation.
