To support the secure and environmentally responsible disposal of obsolete technology equipment, the Information Technology (IT) Department maintains a monthly electronic equipment Recycling Program for all University departments. Thank you for supporting SHU’s commitment to responsible technology recycling and sustainability.

Program Overview

  • When: Pick-up will be on the second Thursday of each month (starting on November 12, 2026). In the case of a holiday falling on this day, any schedule changes will be communicated to the University via email from SHU PAD.
  • What: Electronic equipment identified as obsolete, surplus, broken, or no longer needed.
  • Where: IT recycling room located at the West Campus loading dock (adjacent to the SHU PAD mailroom on the West building service level)

Recycling Procedures & Collection Preparation

  • Coordinate any dropoffs in advance by emailing Zee Uyar. Do not leave items on the loading dock at West Campus.
  • Departments are responsible for bringing recyclable electronic equipment to the recycling room/loading dock prior to the designated day. Exceptions for large or heavy equipment may be arranged in advance through coordination with Zee Uyar.
  • All recycled items must be clearly labeled as either: "Working" or "Broken/Non-Functional"
  • At West Campus, items can be dropped off at the SHU PAD loading dock on Innovation Drive only after coordinating with the program. Do not leave items on the loading dock without coordinating with the SHU PAD staff.
  • Large or heavy equipment must be placed on pallets and securely shrink-wrapped prior to storage or pickup. Shrink wrap is available through the mail room as needed. Large and/or heavy equipment dropoffs should be coordinated with Zee Uyar.

FAQs

Yes, you can drop items off at both the West Campus and Park Avenue Campus SHU PAD locations. However, if you drop items off at the Park Avenue Campus SHU PAD location, you will need to do so within 24 hours before the designated monthly pick-up day (second Thursday of each month starting November 12, 2026) during regular business hours. At West Campus, items can be dropped off at the SHU PAD loading dock on Innovation Drive only after coordinating with program staff. Do not leave items on the loading dock without coordinating with the SHU PAD staff.

No, but everything should be clearly marked as “Working” or “Broken/Non-Functional.” There are bins in place at the West Campus SHU PAD loading dock. Large/heavy equipment will need to be placed on a pallet and wrapped with shrink wrap (both provided by SHU PAD). Large dropoffs should be pre-arranged and coordinated with Zee Uyar.
