SHU Recognized as Having One of the Best Campuses on the East Coast
Services, opportunities and beauty of campus all play a part in the ranking
With Sacred Heart University’s new Pioneer Village, open green areas, new state-of-the-art buildings and its other facilities, it’s no wonder the University made College Magazine’s top 10 list of best college campuses on the East Coast.
An article in the national, daily, online guide to campus life states, “Sure, beauty is a factor. But you should also consider other less thought of criteria, like on-campus resources available to students, residence hall options and nearby activities to do off campus.”
Sacred Heart checks all those boxes. The University is proud to offer students the opportunity to stay active at its Valentine Health & Recreation Center. It’s not just a gym, but also a place for students to bowl, climb a rock wall, get a smoothie or try out the golf simulator. Student Life keeps students busy with the many activities it sponsors and the Center for Career & Professional Development helps students figure out their career goals. Health services are nearby and so is the learning center, for students who need some extra academic help. As for on-campus housing for students, the new Pioneer Village includes spacious rooms and a dining hall just a close walk away.
A student quoted in College Magazine’s article praises some of the services offered at SHU. “Sacred Heart has many clubs including academic clubs, performing arts programs, multicultural clubs and volunteering clubs,” she says. “… Sacred Heart also offers a lot of great resources students can utilize too. Some great ones include the Center for Career & Professional Development, the online writing lab and online/in-person tutors. There are also special tutors that help with labs for anatomy, physiology and biology. I really like to relax or study in the Martire building or at any outdoor seating area.”
“Over the last 10 years, Sacred Heart has seen transformative growth, from the addition of new programs and organizations to new buildings and residence halls,” said SHU President John J. Petillo. “We are proud to make this list among other top schools. Sacred Heart is honored to offer services to students that help their mind, body and spirit, help them flourish and help them become successful members of society.”
