Professor Wendy Romney Elected to ANPT Board
As director of practice, she will provide guidance related to physical therapy research outcomes
Sacred Heart University Professor Wendy Romney has been elected to the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy (ANPT) Board of Directors as director of practice.
Romney, assistant professor in SHU’s College of Health Professions, will provide guidance on knowledge translation (using strategies to improve the use of evidence by physical therapists) and support the practice, advocacy and consumer affairs, and health and wellness committees of the ANPT. She also will help provide a strategic vision for ANPT.
“I am excited to work with the ANPT board, committee leaders and membership to improve neurologic physical therapy practice,” said Romney. “I look forward to collaborating with the ANPT’s various committees to improve evidence-informed practice by physical therapists and ultimately the care of the patients we treat.”
“We are proud to have Dr. Romney at Sacred Heart,” said Maura Iversen, dean of SHU’s College of Health Professions. “Her dedication and knowledge will certainly prove to be of great benefit to the ANPT Board of Directors.”
Romney teaches courses in examination and treatment of physical therapy patients with neurological disease and dysfunction and medically complex issues. She was a board member for the Connecticut Physical Therapy Association and has been involved with several ANPT committees and taskforces.
She earned her Ph.D. from Rutgers University, and her research has focused on knowledge translation and improving physical therapy practices. She is a board-certified specialist in neurological physical therapy and practices at Gaylord Specialty HealthCare in Wallingford. She also treats patients at the Center for Excellence in Neurological Health at Sacred Heart.
