New work explores the Bible story of Lazarus

Father James Martin discussed his new book Come Forth, The Promise of Jesus’s Greatest Miracle to a packed audience at Sacred Heart University’s Dr. Michelle C. Loris ’70 Forum.

Michelle Loris, associate dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, introduced Martin as the University’s “beloved” friend to a crowd of students, faculty and staff. In her glowing introduction, she told the audience that Martin received an honorary degree from SHU in 2010. Martin said he was grateful to be back at the University.

“I am really so glad to be back at Sacred Heart, not only because I’m an honorary graduate, which fills me with pride, but also because Sacred Heart has been very important to me, personally, it was one of the first places to offer me a place to talk about my LGBTQ work even in the face of protest, and I really appreciate that … I’m really grateful to be back,” Martin said.

After a prayer, Martin jumped right into his book talk. He discussed the Bible story of Lazarus and familiarized the crowd with the story of how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Martin went on to tell the crowd why he wrote a book on Jesus’ “greatest miracle” during the pandemic.
