Women in Sports Media
The Sports Communication & Media (SCM) graduate program at Sacred Heart University has been committed to promoting women in sports media since its launch in 2014.
This includes events sharing the stories, accomplishments and voices of women in sports media like our annual Women in Sports Media symposium, as well as the Annual Girls and Women in Sports Day all-female broadcast, and the SCM-produced Women in Sports video series.
Women in Sports Media Symposium
SHU’s annual symposium for women in sports media has featured professionals from ESPN, NBC Sports, the Golf Channel, MLB Network, Nickelodeon Sports, the New York Jets, Nike, NFL, WNBA, Disney and more. Featured panelists have included Jemele Hill (The Atlantic), Linda Cohn (ESPN), Jennifer Lada (ESPN), Renie Anderson (NFL), Cara Banks (NBC Golf), Piper Shaw (Seattle Kraken Broadcaster), Michelle Blake-Wilson (Empower Onyx), Patricia Betron (Disney) and Ashley Ward (ESPN).
Girls & Women in Sports Day
On the broadcasting side, SCM also supports the annual Girls and Women in Sports Day, and for the last two years, has coordinated a basketball broadcast featuring an all-female production crew (on-air and behind the camera) of SHU undergrads, grads, staff and alumni.
