Student Managed Investment Fund
What additionally sets Sacred Heart’s BS in financial technology & analytics apart is the University’s Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). Students gain real-world experience in financial markets, investment management and valuation. Students who are participating in the SMIF program work with experienced alumni and investment professionals, with oversight from faculty, to learn about the investment management process. Students conduct sector analysis, analyze potential investments, develop equity research reports and pitch potential investments to grow the portfolio.
Launched in 2014, this experiential learning opportunity is offered to any student interested in finance. Students are divided into teams, each with a team leader, an alumni adviser and a specific sector focus. Each semester, teams present their recommendations to a panel of peers, alumni, donors and faculty, receiving constructive feedback and recommendations.

Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor With 28 years at IBM, Russ Porter brings unparalleled industry expertise to Sacred Heart University’s BS in financial technology & analytics program. As IBM’s former vice president of finance, global business services, he led financial strategies for a multibillion-dollar enterprise. Most recently, he served as the CFO and senior vice president of strategy, technology and analytics at the Institute of Management Accountants, a global association focused on accounting and finance professionals. With his extensive experience in financial planning, analytics and leadership, he can share real-world insights into data-driven decision-making with his students. Dual Degree Program Options for Financial Technology & Analytics Majors
Sacred Heart University’s dual degree programs provide a defined pathway for incoming freshmen to move seamlessly from an undergraduate to a graduate degree.
While some of our dual degree programs require specific undergraduate majors, others are open to almost all undergraduate disciplines. Apply to a dual degree program as an incoming freshman and you’ll have the opportunity to be admitted directly into the graduate program of your choice at the same time as your admission as an undergraduate student. Students are encouraged to reach out to your admissions counselor to discuss dual degree options.
STEM Designated Program
This is a STEM-designated program, which means you will be trained in areas of technology and math that are in high demand with U.S. employers. This program allows international students with F1 visas to extend their OPT in the U.S. by 24 months after graduating (36 months in total).
