Finance student Daniella Zacharis was recognized as one of five national winners of Microsoft’s Excel Copilot Challenge during the Active Cell Training Camp in Las Vegas.
The competition challenged participants to use Microsoft Copilot to solve complex analytical problems through effective prompting, formula generation, and data analysis. Her achievement demonstrates the practical AI skills students develop through coursework, experimentation, and applied learning experiences.

Sacred Heart University broke new ground by creating an inclusive applied artificial intelligence (AI) minor, which exposes all students to technical, ethical, and disciplinary aspects of AI. When students couple the minor in AI with the BS in finance, it sends a strong signal to future employers that they are ready to support and advance corporate AI initiatives.
I added the applied AI minor to differentiate myself. I have the technical literacy to work with the AI tools that are now reshaping every firm. Understanding AI and data modeling puts me ahead of the curve as it already helped me secure an internship after completing just half the minor, and I’m excited for the opportunities ahead once I finish the program.
Sacred Heart University’s Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) provides students with an opportunity for real-world experience in financial markets, investment management and valuation. Students in SMIF work with experienced alumni and investment professionals, with oversight from faculty, to learn about the investment management process. Students conduct sector analysis, analyze potential investments, develop equity research reports and pitch potential investments to grow the portfolio.
Launched in 2014, this experiential learning opportunity is offered to any student interested in finance. Students are divided into teams, each with a team leader, an alumni adviser and a specific sector focus. Each semester, teams present their recommendations to a panel of peers, alumni, donors and faculty, receiving constructive feedback and recommendations.
Currently, I am interning at Greenwich Park Capital Management as an equity research analyst intern. In this position, I conduct in-depth research and analyses on Chinese equities to produce reports for the fund manager. This experience has been beyond beneficial as I have learned how to find key information that will defend an investment thesis. Further, the fund manager is a SHU alum who has provided me with advice and knowledge that prepares me for my career after graduation!
