Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer

Depending on one's certification, Instructors may teach small or large group classes. Personal trainers may teach small groups or possibly one-on-one. Must be willing to engage students and help them to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Responsibilities

  • A nationally recognized certification is required
  • Knowledge in proper fitness programming, safety, participant motivation and communication
  • CPR and first aid certification

Location

Valentine Health & Recreation Center. This position does not offer remote work assignments.

Valentine Health & Recreation Center Staff
(Gym, Front Desk, Golf Simulator)

Help oversee all areas of the VHRC to ensure the facility is clean and safe. This will include stations at the front desk, golf simulator or walking throughout the gym. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure everyone swipes their SHU ID at the front desk upon entering
  • Wipe down equipment and walk through facility to ensure all areas are clean & ready to use
  • Check-in and set up students on the Golf Simulator

Location

Valentine Health & Recreation Center. Remote work is not available.

Expected Hours

3 hours per week

Pio Lanes Attendant

Students in this role will keep the bowling alley clean and organized, help customers with equipment and lane setup, and ensure a safe experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lanes for events and open play
  • Ensure all lanes are shut down when not in use
  • Assist participants with shoes, lane set up, ball choice
  • Report issues to GA/Manager on duty
  • Organize ball & shoe racks

Intramural Staff

Students will be involved in all facets of Intramural Sports and will include nights & weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Game management
  • Officiating & scoring games
  • Game set-up & breakdown

Expected Hours

3-8 hours per week 

Rock Wall Staff

Oversee climbers to ensure climber and facility safety. Provide guidance to climbers. There is no remote work for this position. Climbing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operations such as opening/closing procedures, safety, equipment inspection and check out, participant registration & check-in, etc.
  • Complete climbing and safety training put on by a current BV Climbing Staff member
  • Orient, provide instruction, and supervise climbers to ensure safety of all participants
  • Belay certification is required to belay any top rope climbers

4-8 hours a week 

Residential Gym Work Study

Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the gym. Residential hall gyms are located in Roncalli, Bergoglio and CWC.

Location

Roncalli Hall, Bergoglio Hall or Christian Witness Commons. This position does not offer remote work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Spray and wipe down all equipment
  • Ensure all participants are properly & safely using the equipment
  • Call Facilities & Construction if low on cleaning supplies

Expected Hours

3-6 hours per week
