You will get a chance to help out in many areas of Discovery. You can assist in Parties & Field Trips, be a Docent in exhibits & help put together craft supplies! We are constantly preparing for some activity and can always use help!

Exhibit Assistant

Our Exhibit & Facilities teamwork to make sure exhibits are working and usable as well as creating exhibits soon to come. They also work to keep the building running! They are looking for a handy person to assist them with this work.

STEM Learning Program Assistant

Responsible for scheduling mediated learning bookings and creating confirmations, calendars, and attendance records.
Provide needed assistance to Director of STEM Learning.

Location

SHU Discovery Science Center & Planetarium, 4450 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT

Responsibilities

  • Schedule visits for groups of ten or more including general admission, in-house and outreach programs, and online learning
  • Collaborate on STEM Learning Programs bookings calendar including materials kit packing and distribution planning
  • Assign classroom spaces and communicate these assignments
  • Create confirmations and contracts/invoices for scheduled visits and share with clients
  • Make confirmations of all scheduled visits accessible to appropriate member(s) of Discovery staff
  • Update completed confirmations with attendance and payments and provide confirmations with updated payment information to front desk staff and finance office before visit
  • Assist in registration and attendance records for summer programs and other special programming
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; administrative skills; writing and public speaking skills; organizational and planning skills; attention to detail and follow-through capabilities

Discovery Science Center Development Assistant

This position supports the achievement of Museum fundraising goals and will have first-hand exposure to and opportunities to learn about a spectrum of fundraising activities including grant writing, fundraising events, and donor relationship management. Strong communication and technology skills, attention to detail, and a pleasant, positive rapport are necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Cross-check that gifts/grants are properly entered into Little Green Light (LGL) against finance records.
  • Enter all gifts into LGL following protocol
  • Enter all grants into LGL
  • Send thank you note within 48 hours of receipt of gifts
  • Technical Assistance as needed
  • Other tasks as needed
