Biology Vehicle Program Assistant

Assist department in filling department vehicles with gasoline, taking vehicles for routine maintenance appointments, assisting on trips to the field, as well as overall cleaning of the inside of vehicles. Also assist with basic office needs.

Responsibilities

  • Fill up biology vans with gas on a weekly basis
  • Interior clean-up of vans on a weekly basis
  • Assist in general office work
  • Candidate must have valid driver's license and pass University driving requirements in order to drive vehicle
  • Candidate needs to be punctual

Work Study Laboratory Assistant

Our work-study assistants help maintain and setup of teaching laboratories including supplies and equipment for our labs each week. Work-study students will have the opportunity to work closely with department faculty and staff to help run our teaching labs. Students will begin working in biology's general labs and if interested can specialize in specific labs such as A&P, microbiology, genetics, ecology and other courses. If interested, students will also be able work on environmental health and safety or office work.

Location

This position does offer remote work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Some lab experience required 
  • Willing to work with chemical reagents, bacterial cultures, cell lines, bugs and preserved specimens
  • Willing to help clean, sterilize and organize lab equipment or spaces

Research Assistant

Working with the associate deans to do general tasks around office and also research relevant topics for data collection and/or analysis. The majority of the research can be done remotely. Examples include finding and collating data from website sources.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to follow instructions and then work independently
  • Knowledge and skill using Excel and Word
  • Data analysis skills a plus

Research Lab Assistant

Research assistant in neurobiology lab, primarily helping prepare coverslips and dishes for neuron cultures. Some general lab cleaning and maintenance. Can gain additional lab skills in terms of learning how to do the neuron cultures. Remote work can include literature searches and reading papers relevant to ongoing investigative research in the lab.

  • Interest and motivation in neurobiology research
  • Good time management skills

Fish Care Technician

Seeking 2-3 fish animal care technicians to maintain fish colony. Work includes preparing fish food, feeding fish, testing water quality parameters, cleaning tanks and general maintenance of the fish system. Work must be completed before 10 a.m. All 7 days of the week available.

Expected Hours

1-1.25 hours per day. Dependent on work study hours awarded.

Biology Lab Technician

This is a lab technician position helping with lab upkeep. Technicians will be trained in lab safety and standard operating procedures based on project requirements. Technicians will help complete tasks to maintain the lab including: washing materials, organizing/entering data and storing/sorting samples. This position allows for flexible scheduling and may include remote work if needed. Including literature searches and summaries related to ongoing projects.

  • Accurately following standard operating procedures for sample processing and storage
  • Washing materials used for sample processing
  • Accurately entering data into physical and online datasheets
