We are committed to implementing and sharing practices of the Principles of Excellence to ensure that our nation’s veteran, active and reserve military and National Guard members reach their educational goals.

At Sacred Heart, we collaborate with the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs to provide a complete set of benefits that fit with your military experience. We are here to help you achieve your goals whether it is to advance your military career, transition to civilian life or support your dependent(s) as they work toward their degree. Student Financial Assistance, along with other offices at Sacred Heart University, stand ready to help you navigate all federal veterans benefits as well as all other traditional forms of federal, state, university and private sources of aid.

Sacred Heart University Student Financial Assistance affirms support of the Principles of Excellence:

  • End fraudulent and aggressive recruiting techniques and misrepresentation
  • Provide students with a personalized College Financing Plan (formerly Financial Aid Shopping Sheet)
  • Assign a Veterans Affairs designated School Certifying Official (SCO) as a point of contact for financial aid advising and developing financial and educational plans
  • Provide accommodation for Service Members and Reservists absent due to service requirements
  • Align institutional refund policies with those under Title IV
  • In accordance with the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018, beneficiaries of Chapter 33 (Post -9/11 GI Bill®) and Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation) may attend courses while VA payments are pending. View more information.

Veterans Benefits

Eligible veterans of the armed forces may qualify for educational benefits. We proudly participate in the VA and Military programs below:

Yellow Ribbon Program

Part of the Post 9/11 GI Bill®, this initiative provides funds for eligible veterans who served after September 10, 2001. Sacred Heart University will match up to 100% of the VA’s contribution.

Dependents Education Assistance Program (DEAP) - Chapter 35

This benefit is designated for dependents and survivors of disabled veterans or those who died of a service-related cause, were a prisoner of war, or missing in action.

Montgomery GI Bill® - Chapter 30

Available to those who have served at least 2 years active duty, have a high school diploma, GED, or 12 hours of college credit.

Selective Reserve GI Bill® - Chapter 1606

This bill is available to those who have agreed to a 6 year service-obligation in the Selected Reserve or if you are an officer in the Selected Reserve who has agreed to serve an additional 6 years.

Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment - Chapter 31

These services are for veterans with at least 10 percent service-connected disability rating. Eligible participants may be eligible for up to 48 months of entitlement.

FRY Scholarship

The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship is designated for dependents or spouses of service members who died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001.
