Griswold Location

Our Griswold location is a unique “Learning Lab”

The University shares facilities with the Griswold Public School District's campus consisting of an elementary, middle and secondary schools, right off Exit 22 I-395. Graduate-level courses leading to Master of Arts in Teaching with CT Teacher Certification, CT 092 School Administrator Certification (traditional weekday evening program only) and CT 093 Superintendent Certification are offered evenings and week-ends throughout the year. Utilizing Summer II, Fall, Winter Intersession, Spring, Late Spring and Summer I sessions, candidates are able to move forward quickly in meeting their certification or degree requirements.

Sacred Heart University-Griswold partners with area school districts in offering graduate internship opportunities to eligible candidates seeking certification and master's degrees. Through the Internship Program, candidates work with an area school system during the day, and take courses in the evenings. The school district agrees to cover the cost of 36 graduate credits of the 42 credits required to complete Certification and Master's. Beyond the obvious financial benefits, the internship experience is invaluable in terms of the exposure it provides to daily school practices, curriculum and student development/behaviors at varying grade levels. This experience can also have an extremely positive effect on future employment prospects.

All courses are offered at Griswold. The faculty at Griswold is comprised of full-time faculty members, area superintendents, principals, and master teachers, who bring up to date understanding of todays classrooms. All of whom impart to their students skills that enable them to succeed in today’s schools. This contributes to a strong focus on applied learning and in giving graduate candidates practical opportunities in learning, teaching and career networking.

Sacred Heart University-Griswold maintains close working relationships with area school districts, providing students with a direct link for field experience, graduate internships, student teaching opportunities and subsequent employment. The university also opens its doors to area educators for teaching methodology exhibitions and other functions which may further their professional development.
