Biology Club

The primary mission of The Sacred Heart University (SHU) Biology Club is to increase the awareness of the SHU community concerning how issues related to the science of biology affect their lives. Members of the club further this mission by organizing and participating in events (presentations, speakers, films, etc.) that increase awareness of the current biological issues of our time (for example: global warming, emerging infectious disease, stem cell research). In addition, club members: travel to scientific meetings to present and view original research, participate in projects that serve the local community, and travel to locations of biological interest (zoos, nature reserves, research complexes). The Sacred heart University Biology Club is associated with the American Institute of Biological Sciences as an official student chapter and membership is open to all students of the SHU community.

"The SHU Biology Club is a very welcoming club for anyone interested in Biology, regardless of major. We are focused on environmentalism, community service, and preparing students for graduate programs. We are partnered with the Princeton Review to provide our members with opportunities to review for entrance exams at a reduced cost." - Lauren Troisi, Class of 2022.

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club works to raise awareness and work to improve various environmental issues, including pollution, conservation and recycling efforts. The Environmental Club educates, advocates for change, collaborates with like-minded organizations, volunteers and fundraises all to promote their environmental efforts.

“The Environmental Club has been so awesome to be a part of while at SHU! Together we reach out to the community, doing clean ups on the beach and in local parks. In addition to this, in the club we also have learned so much about the environmental issues of today and how to combat these issues in our own way! Club meetings are held twice a month in addition to events we attend and events we put together ourselves.” Laura Scheideler Class of 2021

Beta Beta Beta

The Nu Phi chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) National Honors Society at Sacred Heart University has a goal of improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study, as well as increasing biological knowledge through scientific research. Members of TriBeta must have at least a 3.2 for both their cumulative and Biology GPAs.

Members have the opportunity to apply for research grants and to attend and present at TriBeta research conferences. Additionally, the society sponsors events throughout the year that focus on the biological sciences.
