Participation Grants & Auditions

Grants and scholarships are available for eligible members of the Choral Program and auditions are required to determine placement. Prospective students may schedule an audition online or by contacting choirs@sacredheart.edu.

  • Each audition will take approximately 10 minutes
  • You should come prepared to sing at least 16 bars. Provide sheet music for the accompanist. 
  • Your selection can be in any style that you feel most comfortable with, your part on a selection from your current choir; or a solo selection.

What to Include in a Choral Audition Video Submission

Please speak clearly into your video recording device and include:

  • Your full name, where you are from, your high school and what choir or choirs you currently sing with as well as your voice part (for example, Soprano 1/2, Alto 1/2, Tenor 1/2, Baritone, or Bass (Bass 1/2) 
  • The undergraduate degree program for which you are applying or have been accepted to at SHU
  • The name of the piece you will be singing 
  • Selection(s) can be in any style that you feel most comfortable with, your part on a selection from your current choir; or a solo selection
  • One selection is required, you may submit an alternate contrasting selection if desired, but it is not required
  • You may sing a capella, with piano accompaniment, or a backing track. Selection should be about 45 seconds up to a minute or so in length. The exact timing can be approximate, and you could include for example a verse and a chorus of a selection, or a significant highlight or page or two of a selection. (Let us know if we can help with the backing track).

Footage Must Be

  • Recorded within the last 2 months prior to submission
  • Of clear viewing quality
  • Note: this video is only for entrance to the Choral Program and confirmation of the Choir Performing Arts Grant, so therefore it should be a fun and exciting experience. Do your best, and know that we are primarily looking to see a representation of your current singing accomplishments, experience, as well as the potential to add your wonderful and unique voice, background and skill to the SHU Choral family
  • When your video audition is complete, upload it to YouTube, marking it as Unlisted and send to choirs@sacredheart.edu. If you need or wish to send the video in an alternate format (we transfer, dropbox, etc., let us know, that is acceptable as well)
