About Kappa Alpha Theta

Kappa Alpha Theta was founded in 1870 by four pioneering young women at Indiana Asbury, now known as DePauw University, in Greencastle, IN. Our core purpose is to support our members to learn, grow and excel throughout their collegiate experience and beyond. For over 147 years, Thetas have lived the same motto – perseverance, independence, faith – created by our founders as a guiding light for the Fraternity.

Mission & Values

Yesterday, today and tomorrow, Kappa Alpha Theta exists to nurture each member throughout her college and alumnae experience and to offer a lifelong opportunity for social, intellectual and moral growth as she meets the higher and broader demands of mature life. The values at the heart of our international organization are scholarship, service, leadership, friendship/sisterhood, and personal excellence.
