Taci D’Angelo Batista is an assistant teaching professor and director of the journalism & media production and communication master’s programs at Sacred Heart University. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Batista holds dual master’s degrees from Sacred Heart University in digital journalism & multimedia and sports communication & media.
Before joining academia full time, Batista worked as a producer, reporter and soccer commentator. These professional experiences continue to guide her teaching philosophy which centers on preparing students for a rapidly evolving media landscape through hands-on learning and real newsroom practice. She also serves as the senior news producer for Fairfield County News, Sacred Heart’s expanding community news outlet dedicated to strengthening local journalism.
Batista views media literacy and community journalism as essential tools for civic participation and social change. Her work focuses on empowering students to create responsible, community-centered journalism that makes a meaningful impact.

Research Interests
In June 2024, Batista was a presenter at the 5th International Media Literacy Research Symposium in Ponta Delgada, Portugal, where she presented on "Navigating the Future of Media Literacy: Exploring the Impact of Generative AI." Batista also contributed a chapter to the textbook "Media Literacy, Equity, and Justice," edited by Belinha De Abreu, Ph.D., and published by Routledge.
