I received my bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia. I came to New York where I spent the last 20 years of my life. First, at the City College of New York (CCNY), where I obtained my doctoral degree in Biochemistry and continued as a postdoctoral associate. And then, at Iona University, where I was teaching General Chemistry since 2015.
I will be teaching Physical Chemistry at SHU, a branch of chemistry that uses the theory and the techniques of physics to explain chemical and biochemical systems. It might sound intimidating, but it is not, once you understand the science behind each process or situation, you will be amazed of how everything makes sense, and how Chemistry and Physical Chemistry were always with you in your everyday life. My research interest falls in Computational Biophysical Chemistry and Biochemistry, focusing in understanding the relationship between the structure of biomolecules and their respective biological function in order to characterize the inter- and intra-molecular forces in the system that will be useful into obtaining meaningful mechanistic hypotheses that can be tested experimentally.
