David Loranger, Ph.D.
Office Location
Dr. David Loranger transitioned into academia after a 17-year career in the fashion industry, having worked in the design and luxury retailing sectors. In the design area, he managed textile art studios and owned his own venture, The Fashion Collective. In retail, he worked for New York based retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Loro Piana and Barneys New York. He most recently oversaw the men’s tailored clothing and designer categories for Bergdorf Goodman.
While in industry, Dr. Loranger taught as an adjunct in the Graduate School at the Fashion Institute of Technology and decided to pursue his Ph.D. in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design at Iowa State University. After this, “Dr. Dave” was a faculty member in the retailing programs at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and Philadelphia University, where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in fashion & retail, international business & marketing, and design thinking.

- BBA in Marketing (minor in Communications) from Western Connecticut State University
Teaching Responsibilities
Dr. Loranger is currently teaching MK 201 Introduction to Marketing, along with two fashion classes: FMM 299 Global Luxury Retailing and FMM411 Senior Fashion Seminar. Dr. Dave implements flipped classroom techniques and design thinking into his courses to prepare students to enter the 21st century workforce, as he strongly believes in a fusion between academia and industry.
Research Interests & Grants
Dr. Loranger’s research interests include the marketing of cultural apparel products and generational consumption. In addition to actively publishing research, he serves on the editorial boards for the International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management, Fashion Practice, and the Journal of Fashion, Style, and Popular Culture, and is a track chair for pedagogy for the International Textile & Apparel Association Conference. He is also the recipient of the American Collegiate Retailing Association’s 2018 Best Paper Award.
