About the Endowed Scholarship

The Browning Family Endowed Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Scott Browning. Scott had a passion for helping and caring for others and through this scholarship his benevolent qualities are enriching the lives of people that never knew him. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist full-time undergraduate students who might experience hardship that could interfere with their pursuit of a quality education.

In addition to scholastic achievement and demonstrated financial need, the qualified candidate shall be a full time undergraduate student majoring in engineering and/or computer science and shall demonstrate academic ability, an inquisitive mind, a sensitivity to people and their needs, and the potential for leadership and achievement.

Scott Browning | Never To Be Forgotten

"Never has anyone in so little time affected our lives more than Scott. He was a breath of fresh air when "The House," our family, would be at odds. He kept us level headed, not in a preaching sort of way, but in a fashion that he would have us laughing at ourselves. He was one of the most unselfish people we have ever met. He always made sure everyone was having a good time. We wish we could thank him for the times he gave us, the things he showed us, and the things we learned from him; but we are grateful to have the opportunity to thank his family for his generosity and fine development as a human being, which was a great contribution to Scott's character. So although we'll miss him very much we thank the Browning Family for letting Scott become a part of our lives." - Words from Scott's Friends

Donor Profile

"The scholarship was created in memory of my brother Scott who passed away suddenly in 1986 at the age of 21. Rather than pity his absence, the Browning family decided to continue his passion of caring for others by helping students overcome hardships while pursing their college education in his memory.

While there has been profound gratification in keeping Scott's memory alive, there has been an equal and unforeseen joy in meeting the recipients and witnessing firsthand the impact the scholarship has had on so many well-deserving students. What started out as a simple memorial for my brother Scott has turned into much more than that because of the opportunity I have had to meet each and every recipient of the Browning Scholarship. Everyone that I have met through the scholarship have gone above and beyond to achieve the objectives of the Browning Scholarship. It's also been an incredible experience to meet the recipients of the Browning Scholarship.

I am married with two daughters. I have worked as a research analyst at Gartner Inc. for 24 years advising IT leaders on how best to use technology to grow and transform their business. I love to write and deliver thought-provoking research. I tend to be an 'analyst' in my personal life also and enjoy financial planning and investing."

Major: Management & Marketing; Minor in Global Management

"Being a commuter student from Trumbull is the best of both worlds. Being very family oriented and motivated has allowed me to stay close to my family while I attend school. There is a sense of comfort when I enter campus that is similar to how I feel when I walk through my front door. I have studied abroad in India and will be going to China, too. Without this scholarship - I would not be in pursuit of my degree. The opportunity to stay at Sacred Heart is an honor, a privilege, and a great educational experience."

"I love the well-rounded education that SHU provides and I know it will give me many opportunities in the future.  Also, I love that I have the opportunity to belong to clubs and organizations that serve to better the campus and community. After graduating with a Health Science degree I plan to pursue an accelerated BSN degree in Nursing. It is my dream to be a nurse because I have the desire to help others. I enjoy being an athlete for the Sacred Heart Women's Track and Field Division I Team because it is a challenging and rewarding experience. Also, I enjoy being a peer-educator through S.W.E.E.T. (student wellness education and empowerment team), a fun and positive group that promotes wellness on campus. I simply cannot put into words how thankful I am for this scholarship. This scholarship has been a blessing for me because money is the last thing that I want to be worried about. My education is very important to me and your scholarship has cleared a financial obstacle that was in my path to receiving my degree and starting my future."

"I am aspiring to obtain my doctorate in physical therapy; exercise science correlates with my future profession perfectly and I feel well equipped for graduate school. I love SHU because it has given me an opportunity to grow and evolve within a community. I loved playing football for my four years; it helped me broaden my social network and also attend many community service events. You don't know how much this scholarship really means to me. Sacred Heart has taught me more than I could have ever imagined and without you this wouldn't have been possible."
