Program Description
Our team will stay in a hotel in the Wise, VA area.
The medical immersion experience provides a rich, rewarding, and diverse clinical opportunity for students in the College of Nursing. A team of 12 undergraduate and 2 graduate nursing students, 3 nursing faculty and onsite healthcare providers collaborate to provide care in rural southwest Virginia. This is a large medical mission drawing thousands of patients and is housed in tents, set up and designed to care for the whole person. The nursing-led team travels to southwest Virginia in the summer semester for a total of 5 days, creating an opportunity for nursing students to complete clinical credit hours in an immersive rural setting.
Nursing Students
- Undergraduate students who apply to the Central Appalachia clinical immersion must be rising senior students
- DNP/FNP hybrid students who apply to Central Appalachia clinical immersion should have completed the first primary care course
Hotel (double occupancy) in Wise, VA area.
All meals are provided and included as part of the program fee. You are responsible for your own snacks if desired.
Summer 2023 Program Costs
The total program cost due to Sacred Heart University is $1,700:
- $300 confirmation program fee
- $150 administrative fee
- $1,250 program fee
Total Program Fees Includes:
- Program orientation
- Transportation from SHU to Wise, VA and the return trip
- Local ground transportation
- Housing in a shared hotel room/dorm room
- All meals
- Program excursions
Program Fee Does Not Include:
- Snacks
- Major medical insurance
- All personal expenses
Payment Due Dates
- Upon acceptance: $300 confirmation program fee + $150 administrative fee (paid online via credit card or by check made payable to Sacred Heart University). Checks can be mailed to Alexandra Harreys, 5151 Park Ave Fairfield, CT 06825.
- June 30: $1,250 program fee (paid online via credit card or by check made payable to Sacred Heart University). Checks can be mailed to Alexandra Harreys, 5151 Park Ave Fairfield, CT 06825.
