Jonix OwinoDr. Jonix Owino is an assistant professor of Psychology. Her research centers on the well-being of older adults, with a particular focus on aging refugees. She investigates their experiences and perceptions of successful aging, the determinants of their quality of life and the coping strategies that foster resilience. In addition, her work explores cultural approaches to trauma and perceptions of mental wellness among marginalized communities, illuminating their unique challenges and highlighting the importance of trauma-informed care in promoting holistic well-being. Committed to bridging the gap between research and practice, she actively engages in community-based projects that emphasize the co-creation of knowledge with local organizations. Through this fellowship, she hopes to cultivate initiatives and partnerships that inspire and sustain meaningful change, both on campus and beyond.
