State of CT Immunization Requirements for College
The State of Connecticut General Statute Sec. 10a-155 and Sacred Heart University requires all students who enroll at any of the SHU campuses to provide proof of the following immunizations:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) Vaccine
Two doses of each Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccines (or the combined MMR vaccine) administered at least 28 days apart with the first dose on or after your first birthday or evidence of immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella via blood titers – lab reports are required - Varicella (chicken pox) Vaccine
Two doses administered at least 28 days apart with the first dose on or after your first birthday or documentation of date of Varicella disease signed by your healthcare provider or evidence of immunity to Varicella via blood titers – lab reports are required - Meningitis ACYW Vaccine (Menactra, Menveo, MenQuadfi)
Only required for students who live in residence halls - one dose must be given within 5 years of your first day of classes
SHU also requires all new students to fill out a Tuberculosis screening questionnaire, and based upon risk, follow-up skin or blood TB testing may be required.
We recommend the following vaccines, however you are not required to submit proof of immunization: COVID-19, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV, Meningitis B and TdaP.

Exemptions to Immunizations
- Students born before January 1, 1957 are exempt from the Measles, Mumps and Rubella requirement.
- Students born before January 1, 1980 are exempt from the Varicella requirement.
- Sacred Heart University allows medical exemptions to immunizations, however in the event of an outbreak, those students with medical exemptions will be subjected to exclusion from campus. Please call our office for information about medical exemptions or visit Forms.
- The State of Connecticut does not allow religious exemptions to state-mandated immunizations unless a request was submitted to our office on or before April 27, 2021.
