Volunteer Programs

The work of the Office of Community Engagement is at the heart of the overall mission of the University. The programs offered allow students to engage in local and global communities and raise awareness of their obligations to their neighbors through compassionate service, advocacy, and a recognition of the basic human dignity of every person. Nearly all of our programs are organized by student facilitators, who grow their leadership and professional skills as they work with our community partners.

Members of the SHU community who are looking to get involved are encouraged to visit our office in the Academic Center - HC 109. We post weekly volunteer opportunities (transportation provided) to local schoolssoup kitchens and food banks and senior centers. Those interested in a long-term weekly volunteer commitment should consider applying for a mentoring program, where SHU students work one-on-one with local Bridgeport students. Groups of students looking to volunteer together (such as a student club, Greek organization, or athletic team), reach out to our office directly to learn about organizations or events that might be a good fit. SHU students can also reach out to any of our community partners directly to ask about volunteer opportunities. Nonprofit organizations and other community partners who are looking for SHU students to volunteer can complete this online form.
