We have learned that the only solution is love and that love comes with community. -Dorothy Day

Peer Ministry Team (PMT) is a group of students who commit themselves to living out the three values of Campus Ministry in an intentional way throughout campus life. The students are chosen through an application and interview process in the Spring semester. There are eight pillars within PMT: Small Groups, Prayer and Liturgy, Social Justice, Faith Formation, Interfaith, Marketing, Events and Agape Latte. Students on PMT are split into one of these eight pillars to plan various events and programs relating to each pillar as seen below.Group of Peer Ministry students

8 Pillars of PMT

Small Groups

Campus Ministry offers a multitude of small group experiences and this pillar is responsible for organizing and planning various small groups and Bible studies on campus. These include a group called Hearts Ablaze that meets weekly to build community and grow the faith of students, as well as a Bible study that meets weekly to discuss the upcoming Sunday’s readings.

Prayer & Liturgy

Prayer and liturgy are important aspects of our Catholic identity. This pillar is responsible for planning various prayer experiences as well as liturgical ministers for Masses and other services on campus.

Social Justice

Our faith calls us to action. This pillar organizes various Service Saturday events in which students come together on a Saturday to serve the local community a few times a semester. Students in this pillar also organize events and speakers to engage the SHU community in current issues and social justice topics.

Faith Formation

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process that people journey through to become Catholic. This pillar is responsible for coordinating and assisting in teaching the courses needed for RCIA. They teach their peers about the faith and prepare them to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.

Interfaith

Campus Ministry offers wonderful chances for students to explore their faith outside of a Catholic context. This pillar is responsible for planning events and programs that connect our interfaith chaplains to the students.

Marketing

Campus Ministry offers many events and programs for students, and we need ways to promote our programs to the school. This pillar is responsible for the social media accounts and promotional materials for Campus Ministry.

Events

Community-building activities are an important part of Campus Ministry. This pillar organizes events to help students build relationships with one another. Some events include Paint and Pray, Holy Yoga, Bowling with PMT and more!

Agape Latte

Agape Latte is a student-run coffeehouse series featuring SHU faculty and staff sharing personal moments from their life journeys, where they have grappled with issues of faith and purpose in life. This pillar organizes this event two times a semester by finding speakers, picking a theme, and promoting the event.
