Learning about leadership will help you have a larger impact on school communities.

Considering taking the next step to become an educational leader? Enrolling in an educational leadership preparation program can position you for an educational leadership role and can positively influence your current role as an educator.

Professional Learning

Whether you are a classroom teacher, a school counselor, a social worker or psychologist or work as a speech and language pathologist, you can consider enrolling in an educational leadership preparation program. Whatever your experience, you can bring an important perspective to the role of an educational leader. The learning you will gain through your educational leadership preparation coursework will influence your current role as an educator—from curriculum to supervision, you should grow professionally.

Hone Your Leadership Lens

An educational leadership preparation program will offer you opportunities to hone your leadership lens. There are a wide range of educational leadership roles, from building-based (assistant principal, principal, department chair) to district-wide (director of curriculum, director of special education, athletic director, assistant superintendent). No matter which role is of most interest to you, developing learning within an educational leadership preparation program will help you see yourself as a future leader within a K-12 setting.

Have a Larger Impact

As a future educational leader, you will have a larger impact within a school setting. You will be able to forge strong relationships with families, students and staff. When serving in the leadership role, you can partner with teachers, support teacher-leadership development and assist families—all to benefit student learning and success.

Enrolling in an educational leadership program will enhance your current role as an educator. And, once you meet your state’s certification requirements, you’ll be able to step into a leadership role whenever you’re ready!

Education Requirements

Those interested in becoming administrators need to get their intermediate administrator certificate (092). At SHU, this certificate program is tailored to prepare aspiring education administrators to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The program is performance based and designed to help educators develop the proficiencies they’ll need to be successful.

Once educators get that degree, they can move up a step further and get their superintendent of schools certification (093). SHU’s program prepares candidates to serve as superintendent of schools in a public school system in Connecticut. Both of SHU’s certificate programs are taught by highly successful former educators and administrators.
