Each receive $2,500 to support their doctoral work

Ten students in Sacred Heart University’s doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program have received $2,500 each from the Paul L. Jones Foundation. The scholarships were based on merit and need, requiring the candidates to maintain a GPA of 3.8 or higher in the DNP program and to be in good financial standing with the University.

The foundation bestowed the scholarship funds to help foster an educated nurse workforce that will help influence better patient outcomes at multiple levels of health care and to prepare the next generation of nurse educators. The scholarship recipients are nurses enrolled in the Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N., & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing, preparing for advanced roles in teaching, clinical practice and executive leadership.

The Paul L. Jones Foundation first funded scholarships at Sacred Heart in 2013 to aid students and offset the cost of tuition, books and supplies for the DNP program. Scholarship candidates must submit a personal statement discussing the importance of their doctoral research and the impact it will have on the health care system. This funding supports the students’ research and the development of their DNP projects.

The 2019 winners of the Paul L Jones Scholarship award are Sarah Harvey, Erin Milner, Austin McCaslin, Chadae Haffenden-Morrison, Rebecca Schwartz, Tonimarie O’Neill, Jennifer Zhang, Sonia Diaz-Jones, Marie-Reine Byron and Julie Colangelo.
