David Brooks will present “What You Can Do to Heal the Nation” at SHU Community Theatre

David BrooksSacred Heart University will bestow renowned journalist and author David Brooks with an honorary degree at its annual Academic Convocation in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on its Fairfield campus on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

Brooks will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. “There is not a more appropriate person to address our students,” said Father Anthony Ciorra, Sacred Heart’s vice president of mission integration, ministry & multicultural affairs. “Mr. Brooks’ writings challenge us all to think deeply about the issues of justice and truth that will make our country and world a better place. He brings dignity and a gracious demeanor to his conversations that we can all appreciate, especially around controversial issues. He sets an example for all to follow.”

Sacred Heart students are very familiar with Brooks, a frequent contributor to the New York Times and The Atlantic and author of The Second Mountain and The Road to Character, as his books are used in the core curriculum at the school. “He embodies and articulates the mission of our University in our commitment to the good of society and the dignity and worth of every human being,” continued Ciorra.

Brooks will also be giving a lecture, “What You Can Do to Heal the Nation,” at the Sacred Heart University Community Theatre at 1420 Post Road in Fairfield at 7 p.m. on September 21. This lecture will be open to the public, and tickets are available on the SHU Community Theatre website for $40 per person.
