SHU School Counseling Professor Honored for Exemplary Work
Sandi Logan-McKibben is ‘beyond honored’ to receive counseling award
Sandra Logan-McKibben, program director of school counseling at Sacred Heart University’s Isabelle Farrington College of Education & Human Development, recently earned an award for exemplary work in her field.
The Association for Assessment & Research in Counseling (AARC) chose Logan-McKibben as recipient of its Exemplary Assessment and Evaluation Practices Award. It represents AARC’s acknowledgement of meaningful assessment and/or evaluation practices, with particular significance for the counseling profession.
“I am beyond honored to be the recipient of this award, as it symbolizes for me the importance of my work in promoting data-driven practices in school counseling,” said Logan-McKibben.
With a career consistently focused on education, Logan-McKibben previously worked as an elementary and middle school counselor and independent college counselor before transitioning to educating the next generation of counselors.
Currently, Logan-McKibben is a leader in the field of school counseling. Her mission is to make assessment and data-driven practice viewed as accessible for the school counselors she trains, supervises and mentors.
Her passion is due to concern that school counselor trainees were dissatisfied with their experience in traditional assessment courses, leading Logan-McKibben to publish a book, The Ultimate School Counselor’s Guide to Assessment & Data Collection.
“I am truly grateful to those who recognized the importance of this work and to those who are using the book in practice as a school counselor or utilizing it in their school counselor preparation programs,” Logan-McKibben said.
She anticipates the award will bring notable attention to the significance of being data-driven to support K-12 student success and wellbeing.
“Throughout my career, I have strived to operate in a way that illustrates and empowers others. My professional mantra is ‘Advocate, collaborate and educate.’ That’s what I do,” said Logan-McKibben.
