Donations raised during 24 hours help with scholarships, programming and more

Thanks to the investments from hundreds of alumni, students, staff, faculty, parents and community members, Sacred Heart University raised over $840,000 during its annual SHU Giving Day

Over the course of 24 hours of celebrating SHU, from noon to noon on April 3-4, over 1,850 donors contributed to the record-breaking event, which will directly benefit more than 100 areas at the University. SHU Giving Day aims to increase alumni, student and community engagement while highlighting various University initiatives.

“SHU Giving Day is quickly becoming an annual tradition for the University and is seeing increased support and participation from the Pioneer community,” said Julia Olson, director of annual giving & donor engagement. “From on campus to online engagement activities, SHU Giving Day is a special opportunity for our community to come together, show their Pioneer pride and support the areas at Sacred Heart that mean the most to them.”

Throughout April 3-4, the SHU community was treated to plenty of goodies. From Crumbl Cookies, to Playa Bowls and gooey grilled cheese sandwiches, donors enjoyed the special treats. They also had the opportunity to take home new SHU swag like water bottles, T-shirts, mugs and beach towels by spinning the prize wheel.

From supporting student scholarships, championing athletic teams, inspiring musical and theatrical performances and promoting faculty development, each investment helps enhance the Pioneer Journey for current and future students, Olson said.

Every gift makes an impact, and every Pioneer benefits from the generosity of our community.

"This is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Paul J. Sutera, senior vice president of University advancement. “The community comes together to support SHU, its mission and its amazing students and programs. I want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s SHU Giving Day. Everyone played a role in making this a successful event. Everyone really showed their ‘heart’ and I couldn’t be prouder.”
