Sacred Heart Names Alumnus to Direct New Multicultural Center
Robert Johnson will work to increase retention and graduation rates of underrepresented students
Sacred Heart University alumnus Robert Johnson ’16, ’17 is the new director of multicultural affairs, serving as an advocate for underrepresented students. As such, he will introduce and implement a University-wide action plan to increase their retention and graduation rates.
Johnson will be responsible for all inclusivity programs and services provided through SHU’s new multicultural center, including creation of an undergraduate mentor program. He will collaborate with other University departments, such as campus ministry and volunteer programs, to create new initiatives that support the needs of multicultural students and enhance those already established. Johnson also will create multicultural programming with area schools.
Johnson is already familiar with Sacred Heart. He graduated from SHU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology in 2016 and then earned his master’s in applied psychology a year later. He worked in SHU’s admissions office before taking on his new position.
