Students are drawn to social work because of the many ways they can impact society. SHU’s MSW program explores human behavior in the social environment, social work generalist practice, social welfare policy, human diversity, social justice and more. This all prepares them to work with clients in different ways. Through assessment, treatment planning, intervention and evaluation, students’ knowledge and skills will grow allowing them to have a major influence on their clients. Gleenda Rosiclair ’24 can attest to how this program has prepared her for a career in social work.

I know many people who completed the social work program at Sacred Heart University, and they consistently praised it as the best program available. During my research, I found myself repeatedly drawn to SHU, particularly because of the responsiveness and communicative nature of the administrative staff. From the moment I inquired about the program, I felt an immediate sense of comfort and assurance.
I have always been passionate about helping people, which inspired my decision to pursue a career in social work. My admiration for the social workers I encountered during my adolescent years reinforced my commitment. I view social workers as the unsung heroes of our communities, making a great impact through their dedication and compassion.

The professors in the MSW program rank among the most remarkable individuals I have ever encountered. They possess exceptional knowledge and, importantly, exhibit a warm and welcoming demeanor toward all students.
The program also provides numerous opportunities to apply learned skills in real-life settings through required internships and exceptional programs.
The MSW program provides comprehensive training in essential skills for future practice. This includes cognitive behavioral therapy techniques; the use of innovative technologies such as virtual reality simulations and the development of cultural competence to effectively work with diverse populations.
I am hoping to become a licensed clinical social worker in the future with the goal of specializing in the treatment of children experiencing various forms of trauma.
SHU’S MSW program provides students with the skills necessary to work with individuals, families, communities and more all while promoting social justice and diversity.
There are also many scholarships and grants available to those looking to pursue an MSW.
