Celebrate Your School Spirit at the Inaugural Reunion & Alumni Weekend Event
SHU Alum from the Classes of 1967 to 2020 are invited back to come together and celebrate
Even if it’s been years since you stepped into a Sacred Heart University classroom or set foot on campus, attended a big game or simply hung with your roommates talking into the wee hours of the morning, it’s hard to forget that unique feeling of discovery, excitement and camaraderie you felt as a college student.
Well, that special feeling doesn’t have to stay stuck in the past. Your alma mater is calling you home.
The inaugural Reunion & Alumni Weekend at Sacred Heart University is just around the corner, and it’s open to undergraduate and graduate alumni and their families from the classes of 1967 through 2020—with special events for attendees in years ending in 0 and 5. From June 20-22, you’ll enjoy a packed schedule of opportunities to connect with friends, check out campus changes, connect with alumni resources and discover ways to stay involved long after you say your goodbyes.
Are you ready to reconnect, relive and rekindle old memories, even as you make new ones? Read on to get more details and learn all that the weekend has to offer.
How is Reunion & Alumni Weekend different from Homecoming?
Although Sacred Heart’s Homecoming event brings SHU alumni back to campus every fall—and will continue to do so—Reunion & Alumni Weekend was launched to provide alumni with a more meaningful and lasting engagement throughout the weekend. “It’s always exciting to see new events and traditions take place on campus, especially when it involves our amazing alumni” said Robert Gilmore, ’07, MA ’09, executive director of alumni engagement & events. “Seeing their reactions to all that we have planned will make everything worth it. I can’t wait.”
What events are planned?
There are activities designed to appeal to every alum, including opportunities to see how much the University has grown over the years through tours of the Park Avenue Campus and West Campus. There also will be opportunities to gather, including the Pioneer Alumni Fun Run/Walk, a weekend Mass, an off-site service project, special events for milestone anniversary classes and other special opportunities to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. You can find all the activities on the schedule of events.
When does registration begin?
Registration is already underway. It closes on June 13, 2025, or earlier if events reach capacity.
Is there a cost to attend?
Yes. Attendees can choose two- or three-day packages, along with additional fees for on-campus housing and some events. There will also be special pricing options for children or dependents of eligible alumni who are attending. Check out more information about event pricing.
Are there housing accommodations?
Yes. On-campus housing packages for those 21 and older will be offered in some of SHU’s newest residence halls in Pioneer Village. These packages cover two nights in an air-conditioned residence hall and include a linen package, welcome package and included amenities. Room blocks have also been secured at nearby hotels. You can visit the registration page for more information about pricing. Please note: No one under the age of 21 will be permitted in the halls during the weekend.
All requests for accessible accommodations must be made prior to registration to alumni engagement by emailing reunion@sacredheart.edu.
What are the benefits of attending Reunion & Alumni Weekend?
The weekend is a great way to reconnect with friends, mark the milestones you’ve achieved since graduation and celebrate the University that helped you get there. The campus may have changed—there’s certainly a new building or two, or five—but the essence is the same.
During the weekend, you’ll also learn ways to get involved with SHU alumni where you live or make a gift to support the students who will become future alumni.
Whether this is your first visit back since graduation or your 50th, the SHU spirit is alive and well. One alum who is planning to attend Reunion & Alumni Weekend is Anthony Smith ’20, a finance and management major, who hails from New Jersey. “I love coming back to Sacred Heart and I take every chance I get to return to campus,” he said.
“So many people I know are still in touch with teachers and staff members, and they stay connected to the friends they made here,” Smith added. “It’s really a testament to the school. You may only be at Sacred Heart for four years, but your relationships last a lifetime.”
