Stand out to potential employers with a mathematics minor.

Whether you’re majoring in the sciences, computer science or business, a math minor will enhance your studies and give you the extra skills you need to shine.

Why Earn Your Minor in Mathematics at Sacred Heart?

If your major is in the Sciences, Computer Science, or Business, a Mathematics minor will enhance your studies and help you stand out to potential employers.

In the 18-credit Math minor, you will begin by studying two-dimensional calculus, then go beyond two dimensions in either Calculus III or Linear Algebra. You’ll choose from a variety of math electives based on your interests, including differential equations, probability and statistics, history of mathematics, structures and proofs, and more. You can declare a minor at any time, but it is always advisable to declare a minor sooner rather than later.

Required Courses

All math minors are required to first take MA 151 and MA 152.

Explores limits and approximation, differential and integral calculus of the elementary algebraic and transcendental functions, and applications of differentiation and integration.
Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in MA-140 or placement by Dpt

Covers applications and methods of integration, inverse trigonometric functions, improper integrals, sequences and series, parametric representation, and polar coordinates.
Prerequisite: Take MA-151 with a minimum grade of C, P

Additional Courses

In addition to MA 151 and MA 152, students must complete three additional mathematics courses numbered 250 or above, at least one of which must be MA 253: Calculus III or MA 261: Linear Algebra.

Introduces three-dimensional analytic geometry, multivariable calculus, realvalued functions of several variables, limits and continuity, partial derivatives, multiple integration, and vector calculus.
Prerequisite: Take MA-152 with a minimum grade of C, P

Focuses on matrix theory, systems of linear equations, linear transformations, vector spaces and subspaces, determinants, eigenvalues, inner product spaces, and orthogonality.
Prerequisite: MA-152 with a minimum grade of C, P
