The 092 program offers start terms in the fall and spring semesters.
Application Requirements
- Graduate application
- Non-refundable application fee
- Two letters of recommendation (one letter must be from a practicing school administrator)
- Official transcript(s) from all colleges and universities previously attended. Sacred Heart University students and alumni may authorize Graduate Admissions to obtain their official SHU transcripts on their behalf.
- Current resume, including the following information:
- States in which you have held a teaching license and the number of years working under that license.
- A well-written double-spaced essay that answers the following questions in one page per question:
- What motivates you to progress from your current role in education to that of a certified school leader? Describe any specific and recent critical incidents or experiences that have informed your decision.
- What are your strengths as an educator and a leader? As you transition into a formal leadership role, what areas do you need to become more familiar with in order to be a well-rounded and informed leader?
- Describe a time in your career when you felt conflicted because your personal values clashed with the professional norms of your school or district? How did you handle the dilemma of adhering to your own ethical line versus following your organization’s norms and regulations?
- Copy of official Connecticut teaching certificate

Applicants to the Intermediate Administrator Certification Program (092) must:
- Hold a master's degree with GPA 3.0 or higher from an accredited institution and hold or be eligible for a Connecticut teaching certificate

Have completed three years (30 months) teaching experience, but four years (40 months) or more is preferred, under a valid initial certificate to qualify.
- It is a Connecticut state requirement that to be eligible for 092 certification, a candidate must have completed five years (50 months) of teaching under their initial certification. A candidate's final year can be completed while enrolled at SHU.
- Have taken a course in special education and earned a grade of “C” or better:
