The MS in Exercise & Sport Science program has a fall and spring entry and operates on a rolling admission basis.

Prerequisites

Candidates for the MS in Exercise & Sport Science will have an accredited bachelor’s degree in a related major such as Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Public Health, Psychology, Applied Physiology, Athletic Training or Nutrition.

Completion of prerequisite coursework with a grade of “C” or better:

  • Anatomy & Physiology I and II (with labs) 8 CR
  • Exercise Physiology 3 - 4 CR
  • Kinesiology 3 - 4 CR

Highly recommended: Nutrition (3 CR), Statistics/Research Methods course 3 CR

If applying with unrelated major, students must have taken a course related to strength and conditioning program design, or enroll in EX 363 Developing Strength & Conditioning programs with lab during their first semester. If you hold active certifications from the ACSM, NSCA, CSCCa, or NASM, some required prerequisite courses may be waived; contact Christopher Taber, Ph.D. at taberc@sacredheart.edu to discuss those possibilities.

Application Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Completed Graduate Application
  • Non-refundable application fee
  • Official Transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Essay related to exercise science, nutrition, public health, biology, or a related field that demonstrates your scientific writing skill. You may enter a research paper (or a portion of one) previously submitted for a class, or a formal lab report form a laboratory class.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis once all required application materials have been received by the Office of Graduate Admissions.
