Required Courses | 9 credits
This course introduces students to the theory and practice of strategic communication by exploring how to develop, maintain, and strengthen internal and external relations. Students will consider the social, ethical, and historical implications of using traditional and new communication platforms as part of a strategic communication campaign.
Social media has altered how we communicate with each other on the individual and cultural level. This course explores the micro and macro impact of social media on health, identity, consumerism, and democracy.
CM 660 introduces students to the key concepts of crisis communication. Students will develop an understanding of best practices through an analysis of crisis case studies.
This could be your first step to becoming a more strategic communicator. Credits earned in this certificate program can be applied toward the Master of Arts in strategic communication & public relations program or to complement other graduate programs.
Program Structure
Courses are delivered in a hybrid module format with most on-campus meetings held between Monday-Friday in the evenings.

- Design, implement and evaluate crisis communication plans using industry-standard tools, channels and techniques that align with organizational goals
- Evaluate and effectively navigate ethical issues in crisis communication through transparent and responsible messaging
- Become proficient in producing and managing content using digital platforms to enhance audience engagement and brand image
- Demonstrate the ability to create and execute effective crisis communication plans and manage stakeholder relationships and public perception during crisis situations
- Collaborate with peers to apply critical thinking in analyzing, creating and managing crisis communication solutions
