In the dual degree sports communication & media program, students gain hands-on experience in sports broadcasting and communications through numerous real-world experiences. Program faculty members are industry experts and have a wealth of experience in the sports media industry.
Dual degree students are guaranteed admission to the Master of Arts in Sports Communication & Media provided they continue, as undergraduate students, to meet program-specific criteria to progress into graduate program enrollment.
Students in the master’s program have two tracks to choose from:
Sports Broadcasting Track
The sports broadcasting track trains students through in-class exercise, out-of-class field production work and internships with sports media companies. All SCM students will graduate with an accomplished digital portfolio/production reel of their work.
Athletic Communications & Promotions Track
The athletic communications & promotions track gain extensive multimedia training in graphics production, preparing them for many different careers in athletic communications.

As undergraduates, students have an academic adviser, as well as other faculty and counseling resources to help them stay on track and progress toward their graduate degree. Industry-specific events and student clubs are also available for undergraduate students to become more deeply involved in their graduate field.

Criteria to Progress to the Master of Arts in Sports Communication & Media
Dual degree students must meet program-specific guidelines to progress through the dual degree program and enroll in the Master of Arts in Sports Communication & Media program.
- Successful completion of the bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to matriculate into the graduate SCM program
- Grade of B or better in the graduate program courses taken during undergraduate study
