Accreditation, Certification & Licensure Disclosures
Becoming an Athletic Trainer (AT)
In order to become an Athletic Trainer, candidates much complete the following requirements:
- Graduate from a professional level athletic training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE)
- Successfully pass the Board of Certification (BOC) Examination
- Obtain licensure or regulation in the respective state of practice
Accreditation
The Sacred Heart University Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) Program is a professional level CAATE accredited athletic training program.
All CAATE accredited professional athletic training programs must transition to the graduate level by the start of the fall 2022 semester. The Sacred Heart University Athletic Training Program has completed the transition to a graduate level program and is in compliance with CAATE Standards requiring the granting of a master’s degree in Athletic Training upon successful completion of the athletic training program. Certification Examination
Completion of an accredited professional level athletic training program leads to the eligibility to sit for the national Board of Certification (BOC) examination and enter the profession of athletic training.
In order to qualify as a candidate for the BOC Certification Exam, an individual must be confirmed by the recognized program director of the CAATE accredited athletic training program.
State Regulation
Providers practicing athletic training in Connecticut are required to obtain licensure from the Connecticut (CT) State Department of Public Health.
