Student Life Office Assistant

Work study students play an integral role in the daily operation of the Student Life and Dean of Students offices. Students working in this office gain valuable experience working in many different areas and are often the front line for students, staff, faculty and parents. This high-traffic area is a fun and energetic environment. Work study students work closely with First Year Programs, Student Involvement, Fraternity & Sorority Life and the International & Immigration Services staff to ensure the office, the events and the day-to-day responsibilities in the office run effectively and efficiently.

Location

Dean of Students and Student Life, Main Academic Building, HC-135.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors as they enter the office and handle questions from students, families, staff and faculty
  • Answer phones and take thorough, accurate messages when staff is in a meeting or unavailable
  • General office duties including filing, copying, data entry, ticket sales, processing credit card sales and creating digital content
  • Assist at events as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Expected Hours

4-5 per week

The Student Life office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

First-Year Programs Social Media Work Study

The First-Year Programs Social Media Work Study will be responsible for gathering content for social media, as well as creating advertisements and social media campaigns on behalf of First-Year Programs throughout the academic year. Content should highlight all events of Sacred Heart University's campus, both within the department and campus-wide.

This position will allow restricted access to social media accounts, and posting must first be approved by First-Year Programs. All content should be available in a shared content drive and discussed in advance at the weekly meetings with the Assistant Director of First-Year Programs. This position requires up 4-5 hours of work per week.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Photo and video content capture of SHU events, specifically those hosted by First-Year Programs
  • Coverage of SHU traditions, such as the First 50 Days, Family Weekend, First-Year Experience, etc. through original and University content
  • Collaboration with First-Year Programs and Orientation staff on highlighting upcoming events and programs, including creation of related marketing materials
  • Creating and executing social media giveaways and campaigns on behalf of First-Year Programs
  • Collaboration with other campus departments on marketing campus-wide events pertaining to undergraduate population
  • Monitoring of social media trends across various platforms, and the creation of a semester-long social media plan (including off-season content for times not occurring during the academic year)
  •  Other duties as assigned by supervisor
