Athletics Marketing Assistant

The Sacred Heart University Athletic Marketing & Communications office is looking for driven students interested in a career in sports to join our team! Athletic Marketing work study students will work under the direction of the SHU Athletics Marketing & Communications office at various athletic events on campus, and will assist with the activation of game day programming.

Location

This position is largely an in-person role, with hours mostly in conjunction with home Athletics contests. Office work in the William H. Pitt Center also available for those interested. Office work may have remote opportunities, dependent upon the situation.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing promotional and game day activities on campus with the goal to assist with increasing fan experience, ticket sales, revenue generation, and student attendance
  • Promote athletic events and communicate promotions within the local community and student body such as the Greek system and residence halls
  • Improving the atmosphere of each event through the use of games, giveaways, contests, trivia, etc.
  • Fulfill in-game sponsorship activations
  • Staffing of the marketing tables and other fan engagement checkpoints
  • Coordinating with marketing, events, and facilities staff prior to and during events to ensure proper set up of promotional and game day activities
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Athletics Ticketing Assistant

The Sacred Heart University athletic communications & marketing office is in search of organized and reliable students to fill several roles on games days and in the office with ticket operations. Students will assist with all areas of ticket operations for football as well as men's & women's basketball. Basic computer skills are required in addition to being able to problem solve and provide great customer service. Must be able to work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Selling day of game tickets
  • Troubleshoot any customer problems
  • Provide outstanding customer service to SHU fans
  • Field calls from current and potential ticket purchasers
  • Assist with the setups and breakdowns on game days

Location

This position does not offer remote work.

Athletics Photographer

The Sacred Heart University Athletics Marketing & Communications office is looking for talented and driven work study photographers to assist in establishing and promoting the visual identity of the Department of Athletics’ varsity intercollegiate Athletics programs. Successful applicants will have a passion for both sports and photography and will be willing to shoot a wide variety of Athletics events. Students can expect their work to be used across a variety of outlets, including but not limited to: the SHU Athletics website and social media channels, internal and external SHU publications and local/regional/national media outlets.

Location

This position is largely an in-person role, with hours mostly in conjunction with home Athletics contests. Post-event photo upload may be handled remotely.

  • Must be willing to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Athletics events are often fast-paced, and sometimes intense. Must be adaptable and willing to think on the fly
  • Athletics events often occur on nights and weekends. Must have night and weekend availability and be flexible with scheduling
  • Currently, the Athletics Marketing & Communications office does not have its own photography equipment. As such, applicants must own their own
  • Must be willing to shoot a wide variety of sporting events as assigned
  • Must be able to provide select shots during and/or immediately following events, and must be timely in uploading remainder of photos to the office’s cloud storage following event
  • For those qualified and interested, opportunities may be available to work non-gameday events (banquets, special events, etc.) and contribute to preseason photo shoots as well

Athletics Staff Writer

The Sacred Heart University Athletics Marketing & Communications office is looking for talented and self-motivated writers to contribute to ongoing coverage of the Department of Athletics’ varsity intercollegiate Athletics programs. Successful applicants will have a passion for both sports and writing, and will be eager to combine the two and begin building their professional portfolio. Writers will primarily work to produce content for sacredheartpioneers.com, SHU’s official Athletics website. Writers can expect to work on press releases, game recaps and feature stories as needed, and an effort will be made to match individual writers with their passions.

Location

This position offers remote work for reporting on feature stories. Direct coverage of Athletics events could be in-person or remote, dependent upon the situation.

  • Athletics events are often fast-paced, and sometimes intense. Must be adaptable and willing to think on the fly
  • Athletics events often occur on nights and weekends. Must have night and weekend availability and be flexible with scheduling
  • Must be open-minded and creative. Will be able to accept and utilize constructive feedback from peers and supervisors, and will also be able to provide constructive feedback to fellow members of the writing team
  • Must be engaged with the SHU Athletics/campus community. Must be willing to brainstorm, develop and report on feature story ideas independently
  • Attention to detail is a must. Knowledge of Associated Press style preferred. Editorial oversight will come from peers, as well as the office’s professional staff, but basic writing skills are a requirement.

Athletic Video Broadcast Assistants

The Sacred Heart University Athletic Communications & Marketing office is in search of organized, reliable, and interested students to fill several roles within our video production on game days throughout the school year. Students will assist with all aspects of the game day broadcasts, including set-up and break-down, operating cameras and assisting with other broadcast elements including replay, graphics and audio.

Location

This position is an in-person role, specifically for athletic home game broadcasts. Based out of the William H. Pitt Athletic & Convocation Center.

Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with Division I athletics or video broadcasting
  • Video production knowledge and experience preferred, but not required, with familiarity with production equipment, cameras, etc. Training will be provided
  • Candidates should have strong oral, collaborative, and team-focused skills and a strong ability to receive direction in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with others at all levels of the organization. Build relationships with producers, on-air talent and production crew
  • Non-traditional hours, including weekdays, nights and weekends are required
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds recommended

The Sacred Heart University Athletics Marketing & Communications office is looking for enthusiastic, self-starting individuals to assist with the operation of various social media accounts, as they relate to the publicity and promotion of the Department of Athletics’ varsity intercollegiate Athletics programs. Successful applicants will have intense attention to detail, must be willing to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, and will have a passion for both sports and social media. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: gameday social media coverage of athletics events, planning and execution of social media campaigns, generation of content, planning of content calendars and brainstorming efforts.

This position is largely an in-person role, with hours mostly in conjunction with home Athletics contests. Post-event photo upload may be handled remotely.
