Roberta B. Willis Scholarship Need-Based Award

Roberta B. Willis Need-Based Awards are available to undergraduate Connecticut residents whose federal Student Aid Index (SAI) falls within the allowable range. There is no application for this program but students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Awards range up to $4,500 for full time study in a four-year program.

Roberta B. Willis Scholarship Merit-Based Award

Roberta B. Willis Merit-Based Awards are available to Connecticut high school seniors who ranked in the top 20th percentile of their high school junior year class or college undergraduates who ranked in the top 20th percentile of their high school senior year class and/or have a combined score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of 1200 or higher or an ACT score of 25 or higher. Additionally, applicants must submit a FAFSA by February 15 of the year prior to the academic award year. Applicants must have an SAI equal to or below the eligible cutoff, as determined by the Office of Higher Education (OHE), for the academic year. Applicants' high school counselor submits an application on their behalf and students must complete a FAFSA. Awards range up to $5,250 for full time study in a 4 year program.

Minority Teacher Incentive Program (MTIP)

The Minority Teacher Incentive Grant Program provides up to $5,000 per year for the final two years of full-time study to minority undergraduates enrolled in a Connecticut teacher preparation program. The program also provides eligible students with up to $2,500 in yearly stipends for up to four years of teaching in a Connecticut public school. 

To qualify, individuals must be college juniors or seniors of African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American or Native American heritage. Candidates must be nominated by a dean of education and begin teaching in a Connecticut public school within sixteen months of graduation to receive the annual stipend.
