The National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Program (S-STEM) is a federal program that funds scholarships for academically talented low-income students.

The NSF provided a $1.5 million grant to Sacred Heart University to be used for student scholarships in engineering and computer science programs. Each student selected for the scholarship can receive up to $9,500 per year for four years.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for this scholarship, you need to…

  • Be Pell Grant-eligible
  • Be a first-year student in one of the six programs in the School of Computer Science & Engineering
  • Have a high school and, if applicable, college GPA of at least 3.0
  • Submit a 500-word essay on academic and professional goals and the value of an S-STEM scholarship
  • Submit your transcript
  • Provide two letters of recommendation (1 of them from a STEM teacher)

For the first three years, there will be eight students chosen per year. If you receive the grant, it is encouraged that you participate in community service as a paid internship by the grant. This can be done as a STEM mentor at a Bridgeport nonprofit organization or in your hometown.
