Message from the Director

I’m thrilled to announce the official launch of the new School of Communication, Media & the Arts (SCMA) at Sacred Heart University in the recently built Martire Center for the Liberal Arts. It is the latest exciting chapter in our rich history of providing quality communication and media programs to our students. Since the early 1990s, when media studies was a major with just 30 students, we have had thousands of students participate in our programs, which now include six undergraduate degrees and four master’s degrees.

The School of Communication, Media & the Arts will continue its mission to educate lifelong learners, critical thinkers and effective communicators who have the creative and professional skills to compete for the best jobs in the communication and media industries. Our Martire Center for the Liberal Arts supports these goals through its state-of-the-art television studios, film sound stage, motion capture lab, media theater, screening rooms, post-production labs and radio station. We will also continue to leverage our close proximity to New York and our location in Fairfield County to provide internships at an impressive array of leading communication companies and media outlets, while also expanding our study abroad program throughout the world. Our curriculum, faculty and facilities make SCMA a nationally competitive program that all of our current students and alumni can be proud of.
