This hands-on, interactive, lab-based course covers the upper quarter including, but not limited to the shoulder, scapulothoracic joint, elbow and forearm. The course is designed to provide examination, treatment and re-assessment measures for orthopedic PTs and PTAs. The course examines current manual therapy approaches, literature associated with regional interdependence, examination and treatment involving manual therapy and exercise to improve pain, movement, and functional outcomes. This course utilizes a case-based approach and touches upon management for post-operative patients and patients presenting with high irritability. Manual therapy and exercise interventions are presented through live lab demonstrations and breakouts. This 1.5-day, 12-hour course will follow a progression of principles and reinforce them throughout, is at least 50% hands-on lab, and will provide you with hands-on skills you can use immediately upon returning to the clinical setting on Monday!

Jason Grimes PT, DPT, Ph.D., OCS, ATC

Jay graduated with his Masters in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University in 2004 and DPT and Ph.D. from Nova Southeastern University in 2017. He has been board-certified as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties since 2007. Jay is an Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy Program at Sacred Heart University, where his teaching responsibilities are focused in the area of introductory and advanced musculoskeletal examination. He also serves as a mentor, faculty member, and Director in the SHU Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program. Jay has published several peer-reviewed publications and has taught at local, regional and national professional conferences and courses on the topics of orthopedics, shoulder examination and treatment, manual therapy, persistent pain and residency education. He remains engaged in clinical practice and has been in clinical practice working with orthopedic and sports populations since 2004.

Jason Myerson PT, DPT, DMT, OCS, CMP, CMTPT, FAAOMPT

Jason is a physical therapist in Fairfield County, CT. Jason is a 2005 graduate of Quinnipiac University with his Masters in Physical Therapy, and 2012 graduate of Arcadia University with his tDPT. He has completed an Orthopedic and Manual Therapy Residency and Fellowship training through the Ola Grimsby Institute in 2011 and 2012. Through the OGI he achieved a Doctorate in Manual Therapy (DMT) in 2012 and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT) in 2013. He also is a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), certified as a Mulligan Practitioner (CMP) and certified in Dry Needling through Myopain Seminars (CMTPT).

He serves as adjunct faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy at Sacred Heart University. He is the cofounder of Partner 4 Rehab Excellence, LLC a continuing education provider for rehabilitation professionals. He is a lead instructor for the Institute of Advanced Musculoskeletal Treatments instructing weekend continued education courses, manual therapy certification (COMT) and Dry Needling courses.   Jason’s interests include spinal manipulation, advanced soft tissue mobilization, dry needling, exercise prescription as well as the integration of therapeutic alliance and pain neuroscience education into his clinical practice.
