Shaun James, Ph.D.
Office Location
Dr. James is committed to cultivating a dynamic learning environment where students are rewarded for their persistence. In the classroom, he prioritizes engaging teaching methods that bridge theory and practical application, creating a space where students actively contribute to their educational journey. This commitment extends to the research lab, where he provides hands-on experiences for students, fostering curiosity and critical thinking while delving into the neurovascular wonders of the brain. Dedicated to inspiring a lasting interest in neuroscience, Dr. James shapes students into lifelong learners while supporting their academic and professional growth.

Research & Grants
Dr. James’ research examines how brain activity, vascular dynamics, and behavior interact across development, disease, and altered physiological states. In his preclinical work, his lab uses rodent models with simultaneous EEG, optical brain imaging, and behavioral assessment to study neural and neurovascular function in real time. In a separate human-focused line of work, he uses non-invasive EEG and EMG to develop hands-on brain-computer interface learning experiences that help students explore the relationship between brain signals, movement, and technology. Across these projects, Dr. James integrates neuroscience, physiology, and computational analysis to better understand cortical function and create accessible tools for research and education.
